    A Unique Venue

Panmure house is enjoying a renaissance as Scotland’s foremost home of economic and social debate as such, Panmure House is not a University venue in the normal sense, bookable and serviceable in the usual way. There are restrictions placed upon the terms of its use, attributable to both mission and infrastructure.

For clarity: Panmure House is not for commercial hire, nor is it a city centre University/teaching/meeting/study venue.

The House is used for commercial purposes on no more than 40 days per year, which are fully accounted for by our Founder Sponsor agreements. If you would like more information on how to join the Founder Sponsorship Programme, please contact us. All non-commercial (i.e. non-Founder-Sponsor) events taking place in Panmure must directly and significantly draw upon and/or further the cultural relevance of the House in its capacity as the former home of Adam Smith.

Subject areas that fall into this category include: ethics, philosophy, economics, Adam Smith’s life and works, the Scottish Enlightenment, geopolitics, and social theory.

Some examples of events that have been held recently in the House include:

    • a conference on the economics of climate change
    • a seminar on the ethics & economics of sustainable aviation
    • a play about the life and work of Adam Smith
    • a public debate on contemporary economics
