Fringe Tercentenary Lecture: Dr. Roos Slegers

    August 2023

    ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr Roos Slegers is an assistant professor of philosophy at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Prior to this, she taught at Babson College, Massachusetts and Centre College, Kentucky.

Roos’s scholarship explores the intersections of philosophy, literature and economics. She is particularly interested in how the work of late 18th century authors, like Adam Smith and Mary Wollstonecraft, relates to literature, society and the rise of the middle class. Her recent paper, The Ethics and Economics of Middle Class Romance: Wollstonecraft and Smith on Love in Commercial Society, explores this theme.

At Tilburg University, Roos teaches from an interdisciplinary perspective, applying rigorous philosophical thinking to contemporary issues in business, economics, politics, science and pop culture. She believes strongly in engaging students with philosophical thought to develop critical thinking skills and creative, independent minds.
