John is a Professor of Public Policy at the Schar School at George Mason University. He obtained his PhD in Economics from Stanford University. His work has been recognised through a number of prestigious grants and awards. He also served as President of the Association of Comparative Economic Studies. Prior to George Mason, he has taught at Stanford, Stockholm, Vienna and CEU and held various positions including at the Upjohn Institute. John’s research has appeared in many top journals across economics, finance and politics: JPE, EJ, JF and JLE to name a few. His research interests span Microeconomics, Labour and Development Economics, and Transition and Institutions.
