A group of Adam Smith enthusiasts visited Panmure House in July to see how the recent stripping out work was progressing and to hear more about the plans for the building and the programmes that will take place within the House when it opens in the Autumn of 2015. The group had gathered as part of a two day event kindly hosted by the Duke of Buccleuch, the projects’ co-patron.  The event also included a visit to Dalkieth House where Adam Smith often visited to discuss matters with his friend and former student, Henry Scott, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch.  Henry was given the opportunity to travel abroad with Adam Smith, his tutor, from 1764 to 1766.
The event finished with a fascinating talk by Dr Craig Smith, Adam Smith Lecturer in the Scottish Enlightenment and was followed by a discussion on the future uses of Panmure House.  The photo shows the group gathered outside the entrance to Panmure House.
