The final weeks of 2013 were very productive for our fundraising efforts both in America and Hong Kong. We have now received the first tranche of the Global Philanthropic Trust’s extremely generous $1M donation which was widely reported on last year and have also received  donations from a series of events held in Hong Kong towards the end of November.

The Panmure House project is being promoted in Hong Kong by Sir David Li, the Chair of the Bank of East Asia. Sir David very graciously hosted two dinners in Hong Kong where the project was represented by, the Duke of Buccleuch,  Lord and Lady Mirlees and Professor Keith Lumsden.

Guests were treated to informative talks on Adam Smith’s life and legacy by Professor Richard Wong, Chair of Economics at the University of Hong Kong and on Adam Smith’s relationship with his student and life-long friend, Henry Scott, the third Duke of Buccleuch. This fascinating talk was given by the Duke of Buccleuch who is a co-patron of the Panmure House Project.
